TYCO FIRE & SECURITY STRENGTHENS ITS RETAIL MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
WITH ACQUISTION OF LEADING RETAIL DATA ANALYTICS FIRM

Purchase of Boston-Based Retail Expert Adds New Layers of Retail Business
Intelligence Applications to Existing Loss Prevention and Management Offerings

Pembroke, Bermuda - Jan. 9, 2007 – Tyco Fire & Security today announced its
acquisition of Retail Expert, Inc., a retail data analytics firm based in Boston, for $14
million. The acquisition of Retail Expert further strengthens and broadens the segment’s
existing retail loss prevention and management offerings, which are sold by ADT
Security Services and Tyco business partners around the world.

Founded in 1996, Retail Expert is a privately owned company offering software and
services to retailers to enhance operational performance by collecting and analyzing
data that can help limit losses and improve overall efficiency. The company’s software
solutions in the areas of loss prevention, vendor management, refund management,
pharmacy inventory and shortage, case management and inventory control will expand
ADT’s existing retail offerings that consist of loss prevention and security technologies
including Sensormatic electronic article surveillance, Sensormatic® SmartEAS®, and
ADT intrusion and life safety solutions.

The purchase brings together two retail technology leaders, according to George Oliver,
president of Tyco Safety Products.

“We have been the leader in retail loss prevention and management technology for
many years, with more than 80 percent of the top 100 retailers worldwide using Tyco
Fire & Security products,” said Oliver. “Adding these layers of business intelligence
application products and services from Retail Expert will allow us to offer a
comprehensive retail management solution to further bridge the convergence between
security and information systems technologies.”

Retail Expert’s flagship software product NaviStor® helps retailers collect data on key
performance indicators throughout the entire organization and then use that information
to make operational improvements limiting losses and increasing performance. Retail
Expert clients include more than 30 of the top U.S. retail companies.

Tyco Fire & Security’s acquisition of Retail Expert has benefits for both companies,
according to Garrett Knight, current chief executive officer of Retail Expert, Inc.
“ADT and other global Tyco business partners can offer their retail customers an
expanded portfolio of management solutions that build upon current offerings, while
Retail Expert will now have access to a global customer base and to greater resources
for research and development and accelerated time to market.”

Retail Expert will continue to operate out of its Boston offices, providing customers with
service and support. Effective immediately, Knight has assumed the role of vice
president, research and development for retail business intelligence operations at Tyco
Fire & Security.
